This morning I received an email of concern from a client of my website care plans.
In her email, my client wanted to know if the upcoming release of the Gutenberg Editor in WordPress 5.0 will break her blog.
The answer is YES it probably will, but we won’t know for sure until we’ve tested it for compatibility issues.
Currently the Gutenberg Editor is still in beta mode. Hence the reason why I’ve not installed the beta version on any of the websites I work with and I have no intention of doing so until all bugs have been fixed after the beta testing period – and I recommend you do the same.
Even if the WordPress theme you are using on your blog is now Gutenberg ready, some of the plugins you are using may not be, so you still run the risk of breaking website functionality, and I’d hate to see that happen to you.
When WordPress 5.0 rolls out, note that by default all WordPress websites will use the Gutenberg Editor and if you’ve not tested the editor first on a secure staging area which is a cloned copy of your blog, on a sub-domain name, on your server, there’s a good chance your blog will break …
But there is something you can do today to make sure that doesn’t happen to you. Watch the video below 🙂
