How to Fix MailChimp ‘Your Merge Fields Were Invalid’ 404 Error Message

mailchimp logo with your merge fields were invalid text

Are you using a plugin like Thrive Leads with MailChimp to build your email list?

And when people try to subscribe to your list, are they seeing a MailChimp your merge fields were invalid error?

Or maybe, subscribers are just not being added to MailChimp, and the error message is not being displayed on the form.

Either way, the same thing happened to me when I was working on a clients website, just this morning.

At first, I thought the issue was Thrive Leads not working properly. So, I created a new signup form using Beaver Builder’s subscription module, just to be sure.

When testing both forms, I didn’t see the error message with Thrive Leads, but I did see it on the Beaver Builder form.

Whether you’re seeing the error message or not, if subscribers are not being added to MailChimp via an api connection …

In the short video below (4 mins) I will show you how to fix the MailChimp ‘your merge fields were invalid’ 404 error message.

I’d love to know if this video helped you. 🙂 Let me know in the comments box below.

And if it did, share it on social media to help others who are having the same problem with MailChimp.

Kind Regards,
Kerry

  1. Oh my goodness! I have been struggling for months to figure this out, and mailchimp nor thrive staff could figure it out. It is working for me now! Thank you a million times over!
